Nike SB Dunk High Lucky Bee Customs
Lucky Bee SB Dunk High Set Customs created by sharp020
pics by Kybosh(nsb.org)
For those of you that know about SB samples that have been scrapped this is a pair many High top SB lovers would kill to get their hands on. As you know samples are extremely hard to get your hands on unless you have a connection and the funds to purchase.
Info on the Lucky Bee Sample: "In many cultures bees are signs of great luck, nobility, harmony and bliss. This Classic Green/Varsity Yellow FT sample features an all suede/nubuck upper and a carefully embroidered NIKE AIR bee on the outer heel panels. Reportedly the first "look-see" sample in the "Lucky" dunk series, the "Lucky Bee" SB is rumored to be the only pair of its kind in existence. There are only one pair of these in the world. They were scheduled to be released by Nike with "the beer pack" including these, the Heineken's, the dos equis URLs, and the Pabst Blue Ribbons. However, Heineken made Nike stop producing the Heineken dunk lows, and Nike scrapped the whole pack. These shoes were made for mickeys fine malt liquor and were not samples of the Lucky's. " (info via /www.solepedia.com)
So instead of trying to obtain a extremely rare sample Kybosh went to sharp020 with the idea of creating a custom of these impossible to obtain samples: (info via solecollector.com/forums)
Kybosh : "I came to Sharp with the idea of lucky bees. After discussing materials and bases Sharp came up with the idea of doing a pack, the regular lucky bee and an un-pair. This is the end result. I couldn't be happier with them."
I am impressed with the craftsmanship and with this set of customs sharp020 has just moved into the top spot of my favorite customizers.

Nike SB Dunk High Gucci aka RESN
Nike Dunk High Premium SB
Nickname: Gucci or RESN
Colorway: Deep Forest/Paprika
Box Price: $108
Store Price: $108-$215
It has been quite a few years since we have seen a release as hyped as this Gucci/RESN release. There hasn't been this much hype since the "Tiffany" Nike Dunk SB Low release back in 2005. The Gucci/RESN Dunk High is one of the November 2009 Quickstrike(QS) releases; the other being the HUF Blazers. Even though just a regular QS release people camped out for hours for this release. When stores opened they flew off the shelves.
They are based on the 2005 Sample pair that was scrapped due to copyright infringement. The colorway has been said to be inspired by the infamous colors used by Gucci. People have been waiting for this pair to release for four years now. The pair that was released does differ from the sample pair slightly. The denim is not frayed like the samples also the Nike SB tongue tag has been replaced with a tag that has the name RESN on it. According to rumor the RESN tag is a reference to the colors of the shoe: green = weed, red = fire and black = resn (or resin.)
Almost every shop in the USA has already released their pairs and many places in Europe and Asia have already released also. A few countries have not released or received their shipment yet. Shops were charging anywhere from box price ($108) to $215 being the highest price I saw from a shop. I was lucky enough to purchase my pairs for $108 and $120 without having to camp for them. Resellers bought up as many as they could knowing the price of these will continue to rise in the future. With all of the hype surrounding this release I won't be surprised to see the price increasing to $300+ in the next few years. Below is a few pictures of my pairs along with some extras.

Beater of the Month
October Beater: Nike SB Dunk High: Paul Urich
Colorway: Black/White
Release Date: January 2007
Price: $90
I purchased this pair around the release date. I have been beating the hell out of them ever since. The mystery green on the laces and toe is seaweed from when I wore them out fishing. I have worn these for: coaching baseball, working chain gang at football games, fishing, and many other activities. They are super comfortable and have held up for a very long time. This is the first installment of "Beater of the Month" with many more to come. (click pictures to enlarge)

The Final Piece
Ever work on a jigsaw puzzle and get down to the very end, only to be missing the last piece? There is a feeling of emptiness until filling the void with the final piece of the puzzle. Every collector and sneaker enthusiast alike knows the feeling of finally obtaining the last piece and being able to admire the masterpiece as a whole. Well that is what I felt when I got in my latest pair of kicks, finally completing my Nike SB Brazil collection. After searching endlessly, spending a lot of hard earned dollars, and making many connections along the way, I was finally able to complete my favorite Nike SB set. For those that are unfamiliar with these kicks, they were only released in skate shops in Brazil and are not very easy to obtain without a connection in Brazil. In my eyes, the complete set consists of Custom Series 1 (4 pair), Custom Series 2 (3 pair), Custom Series 3 (3 pair) and the Non-Lasered Custom Series 1 (3 pair).
There are many other miscellaneous Brazil Nike SB releases out there, a couple of which I also own, but I personally do not feel they are a part of this set. We'll feature those in another upcoming blog entry so keep checking back. It is the ultimate feeling once you obtain that final piece. The family is finally together as one.

One to Rock, One to Stock
Any sneakerhead knows the obsession of keeping their kicks fresh n clean. If you have a particular pair you love, you will go to great lengths to guard them from the elements. Unfortunately it seems no matter how hard you try to avoid trouble, shit happens, and you might just step in it. Or there's always some jackass that accidentally steps on your foot, or worse yet, stomps on it on purpose because he thinks it's funny. That's where "One to Rock & One to Stock" comes in. The extra pair is your security blanket. Knowing you have a fresh protected pristine pair waiting at home allows you to wear them without worry. But feel free to punch the hater in the face.
On the flip side, after personally practicing "One to Rock, One to Stock" I realized having so many favorites in the rotation lessens wear on each pair of kicks. I'm getting older, but the rockable pairs still have years of life left in them. I'm slowly selling off the "One to Stock" pairs because I will probably never get to them and they deserve to find a new home on the feet of the next wave of collectors. The extra cash in my pocket doesn't hurt either. I told myself the practice of buying two pairs needs to stop. But my latest pickup(s)? The medicom IIs above. After tirelessly searching for them in my size I managed to find deals on both pairs, one after the other, so I couldn't pass it up. I mean look at them, side by side. So sick.
